So, you just moved to a new city. It’s a big world out there, and soon you’re going to want to be a part of it. How do you find someone to date when you don’t know anyone in your new location?
Dating is so much easier these days, and it’s all thanks to the internet. If you don’t want to go the online route, you’re not stuck in the mud. There are always plenty of dating opportunities if you’re willing to mingle and get to know people better.
Never feel that just because you don’t know anyone, that you have to live a lonely life.
Harness the Power of Online Dating
If you take advantage of online dating sites, you’ll not only date people, but you’ll also make friends. Not every date you go on will turn out to be a lasting relationship. That doesn’t mean you can’t be friends with the person.
Network with your new-found friends and get to know the people they know. It’s one way to rub shoulders with people while you’re trying to meet your perfect match. It takes a lot of networking to build new friendships in unfamiliar territory, and going out on dates can be the first step of the process.
Consider Church to Meet Singles
You might not think of it right away, but church is probably one of the best places to meet singles. Every city it seems has a plethora of churches, and you can go to the one that suits you best. It might take a few weeks to settle into the right church, but it’s well worth the effort.
Church is one of the few places where you can rest assured that there are plenty of great people. The people you date from church will be different from those in the outside world because they share your common values.
Get Involved with Community Events
There are all kinds of events that you can get involved with and meet new people. You might consider volunteering at an animal shelter or food pantry. Don’t overlook local organizations like the historical society. Do a quick Google search for things that interest you in your area.
There have to be at least half a dozen things you can do to meet new people. Also, there are things such as seasonal festivals and other events that draw people. Go to these events and try to strike up as many conversations as you can.
Gyms, Beaches and other activities are great places to meet singles. Especially singles in hot cities like San Diego, Los Angeles, Austin, Houston and more. There are hundreds of places to go out and meet other active singles in your area. Jump onto Yelp or Facebook, to find great local spots like the “convention center stairs” or the “hidden trail”. You’ll often find the same people hitting these secret active spots regulary.
Joining a new class or activity is also a great way to meet people. Whether you’re into yoga, running or hiking. By finding singles who are into what you’re into, you’ll already have something in common.
Get Comfortable and Watch Dating Possibilities Open Up
After you begin to feel comfortable, things will fall into place. You’ll talk to people at the grocery store, and one thing will lead to another. Never feel as if you’re pressured into dating. If you pressure yourself, the results aren’t going to be good. Instead, allow things to work the way they should. Give yourself a few months to settle in at the very least a few months and then see what happens after that. You’ll be surprised by how seamless the transition is to living in a new area if you don’t overcomplicate it.
Dating is not easy, for locals so give yourself time in a new city to meet someone special. But, once you hit it off with someone, it will be so much fun to explore your new city with your new boo.
